COMGO Z1 Desktop Compressed Laser Cutter Engraving DIY Machines
This review is for the 5W version of the Comgo Z1. I have only tried a few tests using the sample wood sent along with the engraver. I engraved a butterfly inside a heart, cutting the heart shape to produce a coaster or ornament. The results were very good. I made a few test greyscale engravings on the supplied wood as well as a scrap piece of 1 X 4 lumber. These also turned out well, but a heads up to other engravers is the lumber had streaks through the picture due to the different densities of the grain.
The only negatives for me were that the printed assembly instructions were not useful, and LaserGRBL would not work for me either using USB or the supplied WiFi module. That said, I should mention that the Youtube assembly video was great for putting the Z1 together. I also should mention that my laptop is pretty old, and was designed for Windows 7 instead of 10.
I have found LightBurn to be excellent, and well worth the $60 license fee. It is a very powerful program, but easy enough to start using right away with files already available at places like 3axis.co. The control over power and speed, as well as using different layers for engraving, greyscale and cutting, make fine tuning the results easy to do.
I highly recommend the 5W Comgo Z1 and LightBurn software combination, and look forward to seeing what it will do with other materials besides wood.
